Kiran Choudhary among nine women declared elected

As many as nine women candidates have been declared as elected in the General Elections to Haryana Vidhan Sabha-2009 as a total of 67 women candidates had contested the elections. This the second highest number for women candidates contesting and for getting elected in the assembly elections in Haryana.
The women candidates who were declared elected in the General Elections to State Assembly-2009 included seven belonging to Indian National Congress. They are Ms. Sumita Singh from Karnal, Ms. Savitri Jindal from Hisar, Ms. Kiran Choudhry from Tosham, Ms. Shakuntala from Kalanaur, Ms. Geeta from Jhajjar, Ms. Anita Yadav from Ateli and Ms. Sharda Rathore from Ballabhgarh. The other two women candidates who won the election are Ms. Kavita Jain of BJP from Sonepat and Ms. Saroj of INLD from Narnaund.
In the last General Elections to Haryana Vidhan Sabha held in 2005, as many as 11 women candidates out of a total of 60 women contesting candidates had won the elections.
Since the holding of first assembly elections in Haryana, a highest number of 93 women candidates had contested in 1996, out of which only four had won. As many as 49 women contested the assembly elections in the year 2000, but only four of them won followed by 41 contesting in 1991 out of which only six won the elections. Similarly, in 1987, as many as 35 women candidates contested the elections and only five of them were declared as elected. As many as 27 women candidates contested in 1982 and only seven of them were declared elected.
In 1977, as many as 20 women candidates contested the elections and only four won whereas 12 women candidates contested in 1972 and out of them only four were declared elected. Similarly, in the elections to State Assembly in 1968, only 12 women candidates contested and seven of them won. As many as eight women contested in 1967 and only four of them won.
