'October good for shwoing mustard crops'

The scientists of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar have advised the farmers to complete the sowing of mustard crops during the month of October, as the weather these days is highly conducive for its sowing.
The scientists have cautioned the farmers that delay in sowing may cause decline in the production, as the crops sown late are likely to be more prone to various kind of diseases and pests.
Dr.R.P.Narwal, Research Director of the University said that last year per hectare production of mustard in Haryana was 17 quintals, which is highest in the country. Quality seeds of high yielding varieties should be sown to maintain growth in production, he advised the farmers.
He has recommended RH-30, RH-9304 and Lakshmi varieties of mustard for irrigated areas and RH-819 and RV-50 for rain fed areas. He has also advised the farmers to use 75 kg of single super phosphate and 35 kg of Urea per acre before sowing crop of mustard.
