Union Tourism Ministry lauds Haryana Government

The Union Tourism Ministry has lauded Haryana Government for ensuring availability of 6650 rooms for the Commonwealth Games- 2010 scheduled to be held in India. Haryana is fully geared up to extend hospitality to the tourists and players alike
from all over the world during their visit to India throughout Commonwealth Games.
The Tourism Minister, Mr O. P. Jain, said that besides the arrangement of these 6650 rooms, fifty acre sites had also been identified each at Dudahera, near Gurgaon and at Surajkund, which could be used for camping during this international
mega event. He said that this event had been envisaged as an excellent opportunity to promote tourist activities in the state.
The Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Mrs Keshani Anand Arora said that Haryana Tourism would also organize a shopping festival during the Common Wealth Games, which would be a unique effort. A pre shopping festival would also be organized in February at Gurgaon to assess the arrangements needed for the
festival. A mela on the pattern of mini Surajkund Mela would be organized which would showcase the heritage and handicraft of the state.
Mrs Arora said that local shopping malls would be involved in the shopping festival. The efforts would be to present it on the lines of Dubai Shopping Festival. The success of the festival would bring the name of not only Gurgaon but also of the entire Haryaan on the world map of tourism.
She said that Gurgaon would host the Rifle Shooting event during the
Commonwealth Games and this event would be organized at CRPF Shooting Range, Gurgaon. The arrangements were being made for hosting the event successfully. All the roads leading to the venue of the event were being widened and the work of the beautification of surrounding area was being carried out by Haryana Urban Development
Authority.
She said that the entire Gurgaon City which have its own distinct identity world-wide due to the developments made in the field of Information Technology, would be beautified so as to promote it as a famous tourist place. Metro Extension had already taken place which would lead to eliminating all problems of traffic congestion.
