Haryana CM's team tennis champions

Chandigarh, April 11

The Haryana Chief Minister team comprising Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Vinay Mohan defeated Col. Pandey and Ashok Kumar in straight sets of 6-4, 7-5 to win the title in the Brassey Avenue Club Tennis Tournament in New Delhi today.
Earlier in the semifinals, team of Col. Pandey and Ashok Kumar defeated the team of Ashok Lavasa and Prasad by 6-4, 7-6 and Hooda and Vinay Kumar’s team defeated Krishanan and Traun’s team by 6-4, 6-4.
To decide for the third and fourth position, the team of Krishnan and Tarun beat Ashok Lavasa and Prasad’s team.
Convenor of the Club Y.K.Ghaiya, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax gave away the prizes to the winner teams. Ghaiya said that all the players played with sportsman spirit, in spite of the scorching heat. Ghaiya specially thanked the Chief Minister Hooda for his overall guidance and support. The credit for the success of the tournament goes to Hooda, he said. Ghaiya also thanked the sponsors Mohan Meakin Limited for their cooperation.
Special awards were also given on this occasion. For fair play special award was given to Saurabh Kumar, Additional Commissioner Income Tax. Vinay Mohan got the special award for being the best player of the tournament.
Talking to newspersons after the award ceremony, Hooda said that for keeping fit one must play. He said that he loves tennis and tries to find time for playing everyday. In reply to a question, Hooda said that his government is giving full encouragement to the sports talents in the State. For developing and encouraging sports talents in rural areas, 169 sports stadiums are being constructed in the villages, he said.
Hooda announced that 2011 tennis tournament of Brassy Avenue Club will be held in January next.
