Warm welcome to Queen's Baton Relay in Haryana

CHANDIGARH, SEPT 26
  Queen's Baton Relay of the Commonwealth Games was accorded warm welcome by the people of Haryana as it reached Chautala village in Sirsa district after entering Haryana from Rajasthan.
Haryana Olympic Association (HOA) President P.V.Rathi flanked by Sirsa MP Dr Ashok Tanwar received the Baton at the State’s border from Rajasthan Olympic Association President Mr Janardan Singh Gehlot. There was huge enthusiasm for the relay and thousands of people jostled at the venue and both sides of the relay route to Dabwali. A large number of old, young and children waving the Tri-colour welcomed the relay with thunderous slogans. The policemen had to perform best of their efforts to control the thronging and cheering crowd.
A number of national and international level players including Padam Shri and Arjuna Awardee Bahadur Singh Surtiya, Sports and Youth Affairs Department Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, R.P.Chander, Hisar Division Commissioner,  B.S.Malik, fomer Minister  Jagdish Nehra, former OSD to Chief Minister Dr K.V. Singh and local district administration officers and the wife of Sirsa MP Awantika Tanwar, the wife of HOA President Mrs Poonam Rathi  were also present on the occasion.The Baton was accorded traditional as well as ceremonial welcome on its arrival in the state with artists performing dances on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering,   P.V. Rathi said that this was a finest opportunity for the players hailing from the state of Haryana. He said that the state government had been promoting promising players and a new sports policy has been implemented. He said that the state government would award Rs 15 lakh, 10 lakh and 5 lakh to the gold, silver and bronze medal winners in the Commonwealth Games.
Sirsa MP Dr Ashok Tanwar said that the government's sports policy has motivated the players to perform better and a number of players of Haryana were performing exceedingly well at the international level championships. He said that the Haryanvi players would win a number of medals at the Commonwealth Games.
Later in the day, the relay Baton was received at Sirsa’s Chaudhary Dalbir Singh Stadium by Haryana Sports Minister Mr Gopal Kanda.
While addressing the gathering, Mr Kanda said that the state government was committed to promote sports in a big way. He also referred to number of initiatives taken by the state government in this regard.  
          Tomorrow, the Queen’s Baton Relay will pass through Fatehabad, Narwana, Kaithal and Kurukshetra. On September 28, it would pass through Karnal, Panipat, Gohana, Meham, Bhiwani and Rohtak and on September 29, it would pass through Bahadurgarh, Jhajjar and reach Gurgaon. On September 30, it would enter Delhi from Gurgaon.
