300-bed cancer institute in Bhadsa (Jhajjar)

CHANDIGARH, JULY 12 
 The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda, said that a 300 bedded Cancer Institute would be set up in the campus of AIIMS-II at Bhadsa in district Jhajjar for the treatment of those suffering from cancer.
          Mr. Hooda was talking to media persons soon after handing over the keys of three Sawraj Mazda vans to Director of Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh Dr. Yogesh Chawla here today. The vans were donated by Haryana Public Works Minister Mr. Randeep Singh Surjewala out of his discretionary fund. It would provide free transportation facility to the patients within the PGI campus.
          The Chief Minister said that the AIIMS-II would provide emergency services to the patients round-the-clock. It would be much bigger than the existing AIIMS atDelhi and would cater to the medical needs of the patients of the entire northern region.
          Mr. Hooda said that the vans would facilitate patients and doctors at PGI in a big way as the institute has a huge campus with many blocks. He said that PGI, being a premier health institute, a large number of patients from the country, especially from Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir come here for treatment. The institute was inaugurated by former Prime Minister Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru in 1962 and during the span of 50 years, it has made a distinct identity and earned name in the field of health facilities and medical education. PGI has been maintaining its credibility, added Mr. Hooda.
          In reply to a question, Mr. Hooda said that the State Government had set up a multi-specialty hospital at Panchkula wherein modern medical facilities were being provided to the patients. The number of outdoor and indoor patients has substantially increased in the hospital. Apart from providing free medicines to the patients, economical surgery package programme has been launched. This facility was available free of cost for the poor people, he added.
          On being asked to comment on the issue of Apna Ghar, Mr. Hooda said that the Government has already recommended the case to CBI.
          Speaking on the occasion Mr. Surjewala said that PGI has an area of about 277 acres and caters to the medical needs of patients from all over the country and especially from Northern region. He said that three vans costing Rs. 30 lakh have been donated to PGI to provide free transportation facility to the poor patients coming to the Institute. Earlier also, he had donated five such vans to this institute. He hoped that the team of doctors led by Director, PGI Dr. Yogesh Chawla would continue to serve the patients with more zeal and sensitivity.
On this occasion, Director, PGIMER, Dr. Yogesh Chawla, Deputy Director Dr. Chetan Rao, Vice-Chairman Haryana Granth Academy Mr. Kamlesh Bhartiya and other senior officers and doctors were also present.
