CM honours Sainik Schools mountaineering expedition team

CHANDIGARH, JULY 10
 Haryana Chief Minister  Bhupinder Singh Hooda has felicitated  the All India Sainik School Mountaineering Expedition Team on scaling 6095 mtrs high virgin peak in Rushpu Valley of Leh region in Jammu and Kashmir at New Delhi. The team of 35 members from 15 Sainik Schools in the country led by two instructors from Sainik School Kunjpura, Karnal reached the peak on June 28, 2012. This is the youngest ever Mountaineering Team, which accomplished this feat.
Congratulating the Principal of Sainik School, Kunjpura, Group Captain, L.N.Sharma, the leaders of the team Mr J.S. Gulia and Mr Anurag Semwal and the members of the team, Mr Hooda said that this is not a small achievement.  This certainly requires a lot of hard work, mental and physical stamina and relentless passion to achieve such a feat.  Being an aluminus of the Sainik School Kunjpura, I am particularly proud on this achievement.  I am sure these young boys will keep the spirit of adventure high in their hearts and will bring more laurels in future.  They will prove to be role models, not only for their juniors, but also for others, he said.
 Referring to the mountaineering expeditions of Kunjpura Sainik School, Mr Hooda said that the school has organized 11 such expeditions. Besides other achievements, the Mountaineering Teams were successful in reaching three virgin peaks named-Kunjian-1, Kunjian-2 and Kunjian-3. The last virgin peak was the one, 6095 mtrs high in Leh region of Jammu and Kashmir.
Mr Hooda announced financial assistance of Rs.11 lakh for the Adventure Club of Sainik School  Kunjpura, Karnal.
Later talking to media persons, Mr Hooda said that the boys and girls of Haryana have shown their metal in various adventure activities. Santosh Yadav was the first woman to climb Mount Everest twice. Mamta Sauda also scaled the highest peak of Mount Everest. In Commonwealth Games, Haryana boys and girls won 22 medals out of 38 medals achieved by the country. This time, Haryana contingent is the biggest for the London Olympics and it is hoped they will make the State and the country proud by winning a number of medals. Haryana Government will be happy to felicitate and honour the medal winners of London Olympics.
Earlier, Principal of the School, Mr L.N.Sharma thanked the Chief Minister for honouring the team members on their commendable feat.  The leader of the team, Mr J.S.Gulia spoke about the activities being organized by the Adventure Club of Sainik School Kunjpura.  A documentary covering the latest expedition was also shown on this occasion.
Gen.(Retd) Deepak Kapoor, Air Marshal(Retd) P.S. Bhangu, Brig. Ajit Kumar, Group Captain, V.T. Parnaik, Headmaster, Sainik School Kunjpura and Lt. Col. A.S. Rawat were also present on this occasion.
