New scheme of immunization in Mewat, Palwal and Faridabad

CHANDIGARH, JULY 24
A new scheme of immunization, known as “Tikakaran Express” will be implemented in three districts of Haryana namely  Mewat, Palwal and Faridabad  to provide services of  immunization at the door-step of the people in these districts. This new scheme of the Haryana Government  has been approved by the Central Government to further strengthen routine immunization in these districts.
            This was disclosed by Haryana Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Health, Mrs Navraj Sandhu while addressing a two day review meeting of Civil Surgeons which concluded today.
She said that the scheme  would also ensure 100 per cent coverage for immunization  in slums, construction sites and areas of bricklins in these districts. Under this scheme, vans especially equipped with facilities for immunization and necessary staff would be taken to the villages for immunization in the day and would return by the same evening after having covered all available children between the age of zero to five years in the  area.
She reiterated the commitment of the State Government to reduce Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR)  and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR). She said that the new scheme would prove a step forward in the efforts being made to reduce MMR and IMR.
The Health Department is committed to reduce MMR from 153 per lakh pregnant women to 94 by the year 2015 and the IMR from 48 per thousand live births to 32 during the same period.
 She exhorted them to take care of micro issues to have good management. The health institutions paying sincere attention to micro issues were performing better in terms of health indicators. She asked the Civil Surgeons to send the demand for infrastructure needs to the Headquarters so that budget for this purpose could be allocated by the Government.
Mrs Sandhu said that 180 new doctors would soon join their jobs. These doctors are to be posted at Civil Hospitals for orientation before sending them to Primary Health Centres (PHCs). New norms for the recruitment of paramedical staff are being developed. The analysed data of the Supportive  Supervision System exercise conducted at about 170 PHCs in the State  will be used as a tool to further improve infrastructure and service delivery at grass root level, she added.
          Dr Narveer Singh, Director General Health Services said that there is a need to upgrade laboratory facilities in the medical facilities. A committee to revise the existing laboratory facilities and suggest  improvements was constituted, he added.
            Others present in the meeting included Mission Director, National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Director General Health Services, Director NRHM, Principal Medical Officer (PMO) and Deputy Civil Surgeons.
