Rich tribute paid to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal BahadurShastri

Rich tributes were paid to Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister, Mr Lal Bahadur Shastri on the occasion of their birth anniversary today as functions were organized at several places in Haryana including those visited by Mahatma Gandhi in Palwal and village Ghasera in district Mewat.
     A function was also held at Haryana Raj Bhawan, here today where Governor Mr Jagannath Pahadia paid rich tributes to both Mahatma Gandhi and Mr Lal Bahadur Shastri.
          Mr Pahadia said that Mahatma Gandhi proved that violence and war are no solution to any problem. He said that Mahatma Gandhi showed the path of non-violence to not only the Indians, but to the entire humanity.The day was also being observed as World Non-violence Day, he added.
          He said that Mahatma Gandhi had dreamt of a prosperous India and wanted peace in the world.
     Mr Pahadia said that Mr Lal Bahadur Shastri symbolized simplicity, honesty, patriotism and dedication to duty.
          Mr Jagannath Pahadia also paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Mr Lal Bahadur Shastri.
          A ‘Sarv Dharam Prathna Sabha’ was also organized as four priests representing different religions that is Hinduism, Christianity, Sikhism and Islam recited sermons from religious scriptures.
          The favourite ‘bhajans’ of Mahatma Gandhi were also recited by the artistes of Haryana Information, Public Relations and Cultural Affairs Department.
         In a function organized at Mahatama Gandhi’s memorial at Railweay Station, Palwal, the Member Parliament, Mr. Avtar Singh Bhadana said that it was here on April 10, 1919 that Mahatma Gandhi was arrested by the British Government when he was on his way from Mumbai to Punjab for raising his voice against Rowlett Act.
          The MP said that a comprehensive plan involving an expenditure of  Rs 11 crore has been prepared for the renovation of Palwal railway station. This plan included a big memorial of Mahatma Gandhi, a museum based on his life, an automatic railway bridge and various other modern facilities. He said that he has, through a written communication, urged   the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and Union Railway Minister, Mr. C. P. Joshi to increase the budget from Rs 11 crore   to meet the expenditure of renovation.  
          Another function was organized at model village Ghasera in district Mewat. It was here on December 19, 1947 that Gandhi ji had motivated the residents of Mewat to not migrate to Pakistan.The function was presided over by City Magistrate, Mr Rajesh Kumar and Sub Divisional Magistrate, Nuh Mr Tirlok Chand.
