CHANDIGARH, NOV 6
A delegation of global youth leaders from various parts of the
world visited Manesar village in district Gurgaon where they were impressed to
see the facilities being provided by the Haryana Government at the Aanganwadi
Center. The delegation has come to participate in World Economic Forum (WEF)
summit being organized in Gurgaon from November 6 to 9. The
delegation was lead by Deputy Prime Minister of Zimbabwe Mr Arthur Mutambara
who desired to start such scheme on similar pattern in his country.
Mr
Mutambara appreciated the scheme run for welfare of women and children. This
shows the commitment of the government towards the health care of women and children.
They were getting hygienic food through these centers. He said that in Africa,
there were many countries where a number of expectant mothers and new born died
due to malnutrition. Mr Mutambara said that after going back, he would
recommend the government there to initiate such a scheme for providing
nutritious food and health care of the women and children.
Mr
Madhugaur Yashki, Lok Sabha Member from Andhra Pradesh who is also member of
Global Youth Leaders, accompanied the delegation. While interacting with his
foreign counterparts, he said that he had been to various states of India to
review the facilities being provided to the women there, Haryana certainly is
one of the states where the Aanganwadi Scheme is being implemented in right perspective
and it is in real sense fulfilling the objective with which the scheme was
launched. In Haryana, the Aanganwadi centers have separate buildings of their
own while some other states were lacking on this aspect. Mr Yashki also told
his colleagues from foreign countries that Haryana, though a small state just
adjoining to national capital Delhi, is seen as a leading state in the country
which has good growth rate.
The
delegation also had dialogue with the women and children present in the Anganwadi
Center and got more information about care of their nutrition. The
officials of Woman and Child Department of government of Haryana apprised the
delegation that the Anganwadi Scheme was launched in India in the year 1975.
After that, it was ensured at the center that the children below the age of 6
years and expectant mothers were properly vaccinated and got nutritious food.
They were distributed some food items at the center also. Anganwadi centers
were running in villages where two ladies from same village were appointed as
