CM inaugurates Akshay Urja Bhawan in Panchkula

 The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda, inaugurated  “Akshay Urja Bhawan” constructed at a cost of Rs. 11 crore in Sector-17,  Panchkula near here today. The building demonstrates energy efficient building design and green building concepts. The Chief Minister went around the building to see for himself its various features.
           This building will house the offices of the Renewable Energy Department and  Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency (HAREDA). The building has been constructed to demonstrate energy efficient building design and green building concepts and has been constructed in compliance with the Energy Conservation Building Codes (ECBC) and with   5 Star rating of Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) rating system for Green buildings of Government of India. 
            The building has been constructed on solar passive design techniques having Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) system of 42.5 KW capacity, Solar Chimney, mist cooling, cavity walls, fly ash based bricks, solar water heating system, water recycling and energy efficient lighting. As about  35 per cent of the heat in a building is ingressed from the roof, the roof of the  building has been covered with thermotech tiles which avoid transmission of heat into the building. All the windows in the building are oriented in the South direction with double glazed windows to ensure maximum light during day time and minimum transmission of thermal load into the building.
 The energy consumption in this building is estimated to be about 15 kWhr/m2/year in comparison to the consumption of about 200 kWhr/m2/year in an existing air conditioned building. No municipal water supply is required after the first monsoon. The building cost includes the cost of renewable energy devices installed in the building. The building has been constructed by the Haryana Police Housing Corporation.  The building also has an exhibition area where renewable energy and energy efficient devices will be displayed and advisory services would be provided. The building will have all futurist office amenities.
