Haryana PWD (B & R) gets IBC Award for Excellence in Built Environment, 2011

Haryana Public Works (Buildings and Roads) Department got IBC Award for Excellence in Built Environment, 2011   by the Indian Building Congress for the works of “Administrative Block, Mini Secretariat Rohtak” and “High level balanced Cantilever Bridge over Western Jamuna kanal crossing Kaith Kalanaur road in Yamunanagar”. The awards were presented in the ceremony held in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on 17th January, 2013 during 18th Annual Convection of Indian Building Congress by Ms.  Deepa Dasmunsi, State Minister for  Urban Development in presence of Sh. Kamal Nath, Hon’ble Union Minister for Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs and Sh. Mahesh Kumar, President, Indian Building Congress & Engineer-in-Chief, Haryana, Public Works (B&R) Department.                 
                      The administrative block in Mini Secretariat Rohtak was completed in May 2011 at a cost of Rs. 22.92 Cr. This building has a total covered area of 1.80 lac sqft. and it is a Green, Earthquake Resistant building and with  barrier free environment. Solar water heating system and rain water harvesting system have been used.  This building has been designed conforming to IS 1893-2002, IS 4326, seismic ductile detailing code IS 13920-1993. Fire sensing/alarm systems have been provided. Fans & fittings are energy efficient as per Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency and BEE Guidelines thus saving about 25% in electricity consumption. Appliances used adhere to Five Star rating of  Bureau of Energy Efficiency.     
                 The High level Balanced Cantilever Bridge, which  is a unique Prestressed concrete structure on Western Jamuna Canal and is very important Bridge as the road connects Yamuna Nagar- Jagadhri-Chhachhrauli road (NH-73-A) with Saharanpur Kurukshetra road (NH-73 and SH-6).  It was completed in February 2010 at a cost of Rs. 15.25 Cr. and is the first bridge in Haryana constructed with this technique. The length of the bridge is 170 mtr. High grade M35 and M45 ready mix concrete was used in the bridge. As both the projects are located on Seismic Zone IV, rigorous seismic design had been carried out as per provisions of IRC & IC codes. Seismic arresters have been provided as per structural design to fulfill the criteria.
