Dr Sandhu appreciates HAU efforts in wheat research

 Dr. J. S. Sandhu, Agriculture Commissioner, Government of India applauded wheat research programme of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University Hisar.
                  Dr. Sandhu who was in the university visited its research farm and saw the research work being carried out  on wheat by the varsity scientists.  CCSHAU Director of Research, Dr. S.S. Siwach also accompanied him.
                  During the visit, he witnessed demonstration plots of wheat varieties developed in the university and also held discussions with the wheat scientists.
                  He was highly impressed to see the demonstration of newly developed wheat variety WH 1105 as the plants of this variety were completely free from yellow rust disease that too in a field infected with the disease.
                  On this occasion, Dr. S. R. Verma, Head, Wheat and Barley Section apprised Dr. Sandhu of the research projects implemented for improvement of wheat crop as also the new genotypes which were being tested in the advance trials at the National level. He said these genotypes were heat tolerant and possessed disease resistance and excellent quality.
                  Dr. Sandhu also visited the nucleus seed production fields of wheat varieties. 
  REPAIRING BML-BARWALA LINK CHANNEL:  The Haryana Government has notified that BML-Barwala Link Channel and Tail BML System will remain closed for repairs and other emergent works on the canal system from April 10  to 23, 2013.
 LAKHWINDER ARRESTED WITH 29 KG POPPY: Haryana Police has arrested a person identified as Lakhwinder, a resident of village Behlan, Police Station sector 31, Chandigarh with 29 kgs poppy husk. He was arrested  from Banipur chowk, district Rewari.
          While stating this today, a spokesman of the Police Department said that during interrogation the accused admitted that he was carrying the poppy husk from Rajasthan to Chandigarh via Rohtak. He said that the accused would be on remand so that his other associates could be identified.
          In another incident, the Police has, following a tip off, conducted a raid in village Kharkhoda   and arrested two persons indulged in betting on IPL cricket match. The police have recovered a mobile phone, a laptop, a   television set from their possession. The accused have been identified as Ashok alias Mintu, a resident of Kharkhoda, district Rewari and Bachhan.
