Navraj for providing best treatment in emergency cases

 Principal Secretary, Health Haryana, Mrs Navraj Sandhu has laid emphasis on providing  the best treatment  in emergency cases, especially during the first golden hour after the accident so as to save precious lives.
          She was speaking after inaugurating  a one day state level workshop on “Accident, Emergency and Trauma” today.This workshop was a part of the series  of such workshops being organized by the department to further enhance its efficiency.
She described emergency services as the face of any hospital adding that a  lot of focus is required to improve emergency services in terms of manpower, logistics and infrastructure. In accident cases patient is to be given best treatment during the golden hour. Most of the patients die during the golden hour as timely medical aid is not being given during this period. By providing quality care in terms of handling of accidental cases during golden hour we can save many lives. We need to strengthen our hospitals in order to provide timely and quality health services for the masses who cannot afford private hospitals, she added.
She said that the workshop has been organized with the objective to focus on strategy, protocols and organization of emergency services in pre hospital care transport and care of the patient in the hospital.
Dr Angel Rajan Singh, eminent speaker from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, Dr Parivalan, Head, Department of Emergency Medicine, Sundram Medical Foundation, Chennai, Dr Pankaj, PGIMER, Chandigarh  trained the doctors in handling trauma and emergency cases. She said that we have wide network of ambulances   which have been strategically located to provide timely care to emergency patients.
Dr N.K. Arora, Director General Health Services, Haryana, while speaking on the occasion said that during  financial year 2011-12, a total of 7,04,384 patients were treated in Accident and Emergency Department. About 10,000 cases,excluding accident cases, are referred annually from periphery to district hospitals. Dr Arora further said that Emergency department is required to provide range of services from first aid to sophisticated management of surgical and  medical emergencies and full scale trauma care. Therefore, there is an urgent need to recognize change in concept and function of Emergency Department. The design of A and ED should be such that it handles a wide range of cases economically and efficiently in terms of space, equipment, manpower and supplies.
The workshop was attended by Principal Medial officers, Medical Superintendents in-charge, Orthopaedicians, Surgeons, Anesthetists, and Hospital Administrators from Government Hospitals of Haryana.
