CHANDIGARH, MAY 7
Belgium has
evinced keen interest in mutual co-operation with Haryana in the field of food
processing, renewable energy and technology.
The Ambassador of
Belgium, Mr Pierre Vaesen, along with Counsellor, Economic and Political
Affairs, Mr Antoine Delcout, who made a courtesy call on the Haryana Chief
Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda, here today discussed various issues of
mutual interest and expressed the desire to exchange business expertise between
Belgium and Haryana.
Mr. Pierre Vaesen said that
located close to the national capital, Haryana has huge potential of
development in several fields.
The Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Project (DMIC) being
developed would further boost economic development in the state and also
provide investment opportunities. Stating that Haryana had emerged as a
favorite destination for investors to set up ventures, he expressed the hope
that both Belgium and Haryana could go a long way in sharing their expertise in
different fields of development.
Mr Pierre said that he would apprise the authorities and and the business community in Belgium of the areas where both could cooperate.
Mr Hooda told the Belgium Ambassador that during the last about eight years, Haryana had witnessed rapid industrialization with a number of Industrial Model Townships (IMTs) having been set up and more coming up. IMTs have been developed at Manser in Gurgaon, Rohtak and Faridabad.

Besides, a new coach factory is coming up
at Gohana in Sonipat district which would further boost industrial development.
Four investment cities have been proposed in Haryana under the DMIC
project. These are: Manesar-Bawal Investment Region, Kundli-Sonepat Investment Region, Faridabad-Palwal Investment Area and Rewari-Hisar Investment Area will be developed in a phased manner.
Mr Hooda said that Haryana had responded well through its land acquisition policy and compensation paid to the farmers of the state is the highest in the country besides other benefits under the Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) Policy. Referring to the interest shown by Mr Pierre in food
processing industry, Mr. Hooda told him that a world class terminal market of
fruits and vegetables was been set up at Gannaur in district
Sonipat at the cost of Rs 1,500 crore. This market would cater to the needs of Delhi and the adjoining areas.

The Chief Minister said that he had laid special emphasis
on diversification of crops to further increase production of fruits and
vegetables.
Mr. Hooda told the Ambassador that a nuclear power plant was being set up in village Gorakhpur in district Fatehabad for which land had already been acquired. The state government had also set up four
thermal power plants to augment power supply. There is also a proposal to generate power through renewable energy, Mr Hooda added.
Asked about the prospects of textile in Haryana, Mr Hooda said that Panipat is a famous centre for handloom industry, hosiery and textile. Gurgaon also has centres for readymade garments. Haryana is
also a hub of automobile industry. “We produce 50 per cent of passenger cars, 37 per cent of the two- wheelers and 80 per cent of mobile cranes in the country”, he added.
