Fruits of Centre of Excellence for Fruits in Sirsa

 With the setting up of Center of Excellence for Fruits at village Mangiana of Sirsa district, it  has become an important place on the world map. The centre will usher a new era of development of this area.
          The Center has been set up under the Indo-Israel Project. It would give major impetus to the agricultural activities, which will substantially increase the income of the farmers. Besides, the farmers of Sirsa Parliamentary Constituency, the farmers of Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan would be benefited from this Center.  This area is already ahead in the country in wheat production. It also holds second position in the country in the production of cotton. With the hard work and dedication of farmers the day is not far when this district would be leading the country in production of fruits also.
Sirsa district is already famous for the production  of citrus fruits namely Kinnow and Malta which is highest in the country. In the year 2012-13, production of 1.80 lakh metric tonnes of Kinnow and Malta have been registered here, which is a record in the country.
          The implementation of National Horticulture Mission and other schemes by the State Government in the district has proved to be a boon for the farmers of this area. A sum of Rs. 90 crore has so far been spent under the National Horticulture Mission to give boost to horticulture activities in the district. As a result, 8300 hectares of land in the district is being covered under horticulture crops. Since the setting up of this Center thousands of farmers have been benefitted. The Center has also earned an income of more than Rs. 30 lakh.  
          During the last several years, the farmers have started taking interest in the cultivation of horticultural crops.  With a view to further encourage the farmers towards production of Guava; a demo sub-station of Guava has been set up in Bhuna block of district Fatehabad. The commencement of this project would benefit the farmers of the area to further increase the production of Guava.
          Member of Parliament Dr. Ashok Tanwar visited the Center at village Mangiana today. He went around the Center and took keen interest in different varieties of fruits. Project Officer of Center Dr. Pawan Kumar gave detailed information to Dr. Tanwar about various varieties of fruits planted at the Center.
