The Haryana Government today released about Rs. 100 crore to the Cooperative Sugar Mills in the State for
payment of sugarcane purchased from the farmers during the crushing season
2012-13. Haryana will be the first State among neighbouring States to
ensure entire cane payment to the farmers.
In
a statement issued here today, Cooperation Minister Mr. Satpal Sangwan
expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda
for releasing these funds. He said that this decision by the Chief
Minister has once again proved that he is the true well wisher of the farming
community. He said that during the current season, all the nine Cooperative
Sugar Mills of the State had purchased 313.18 lakh quintals of sugarcane worth
Rs. 878.40 crore out of which payment of Rs 758.06 crore had already
been made to the farmers.
The
Cooperation Minister said that the entire cane arrears would soon be paid to
the farmers. He said that this amount included Rs. 8.50 crore to
Sugar Mill, Rohtak, Rs. 10 crore to Sonipat, Rs. 10.85 crore to Jind, Rs. 14.90
crore to Palwal, Rs. 14.85 crore to Meham, Rs. 11.75 crore to Kaithal, Rs. 9.35
crore to Panipat, Rs. 8.60 crore to Karnal and Rs. 11.20 crore to Sugar Mill
Gohana.
He
said that during the year 2012-13, hike in sugarcane price has been made at the
rate of Rs 45 per quintal, which is the highest ever increase. He said
that the recovery of sugar in Cooperative Sugar Mills this year remained 9.42
per cent, which is far more than that of the neighboring States of Punjab,
Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Apart from this, the Sugar Mills have supplied
673.17 lakh units of electricity to the power grid this year, he added.
Mr.
Sangwan said that last year also, the Cooperative Sugar Mills had paid the
entire cane arrears to the farmers for the sugarcane purchased by
them.
