Haryana Chief
Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has congratulated Siddhant Suhag, who
bagged the coveted Sword of Honour during passing out parade at Indian Military
Academy, Dehradun, the other day.
Mr. Siddhant
Suhag had called on Mr. Hooda at his residence here today.He hails from village
Bisahan in district Jhajjar.
Another cadet,
Vikas Kumar of the same village won the gold medal. Prateek Dhankhar of
Rohtak has bagged silver medal as a technical graduate. Out of a
total 631 gentlemen cadets, 60 of them hailing from Haryana had passed
out from the Indian Military Academy.
While highlighting the state’s contribution to defence
forces, the Chief Minister expressed happiness and said that he was proud that
though Haryana is a small state yet every tenth soldier of the defence
forces hails from the State. He said that the state government has also
organized awareness camps for providing guidance to those youth who are willing
to serve the defence forces. He said that Sainik School, Kunjpura has also
contributed hundreds of officers to the defence forces.
Mr. Hooda said
that the state government is providing assistance to soldiers, ex-servicemen
and their dependents. The amount of pension, scholarships and grants being
given to them has also been hiked. He said that 10 per cent reservation has
been made in group housing societies for serving soldiers and ex-servicemen.
Apart from this, one per cent rebate in stamp duty is being given to them on
purchase of house or plot. He said that Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh has
recently laid the foundation stone of first Defence University of the country
in Gurgaon.
Siddhant
Suhag said that his grandfather and father Junior Warrant Officer, Mr. Hoshiyar
Singh Suhag have inspired him to join defence forces. Siddhant has been
inducted into 18 Sikh Infantry, Manipur.
Apart from
ex-servicemen, a large number of people from village Bisahan are serving in defence
forces. Lt. General Dalbir Singh Suhag, Eastern Army Commander also belongs to
this village.
Earlier, Sudeep
Kumar of Haryana had won coveted Sword of Honour in passing out parade in
December 2012.
