HAU signs Mou with 38 private seed companies

 Moving forward in its public-private  partnership programme initiated for commercialization of technologies, Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU) signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with 38  private seed companies today.
             Under the MoUs, non-exclusive licenses have been granted to these companies by the university for the production and marketing of seed of a recently developed yellow disease resistant wheat variety, WH-1105.
             This wheat variety is suitable for cultivation under irrigated and timely sown conditions in north west plain zone of the country. Apart from yellow rust,  the variety is also resistant against several other diseases. It gives average yield of 52.5 q/ha in 144 days.  Besides, it has protein content as high as 12.5 per cent.
             At a programme chaired by the Vice-Chancellor,  Dr. K. S. Khokhar, MoUs were signed between the representatives of seed companies from Andhra Pradesh, J&K, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan and the Director of Research of the university,  Dr. S. S. Siwach.
             Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Khokhar said that benefit of university technologies should reach to maximum number of farmers and the agreements today signed with private seed companies would go a long way in achieving this objective.
             Regarding wheat variety,  WH-1105, he said that besides its resistance against yellow rust disease,  it also out yielded the popular wheat varieties in the National trials. Because of these qualities, several other seed companies had also approached the university to get its seed material.
             He complemented the team of varsity scientists that had developed this variety and also urged the representatives of the seed companies to maintain quality of seed of this variety.
             Dr. Ram  Singh, Director of Human Resource Management of the university said that the Business Planning and Development Unit set up in the university particularly to commercialize varsity technologies and entrepreneurship  development, had so far commercialized 48 research technologies including maize, pearl millet and rice hybrids, wheat and dhaincha varieties, liquid biofertilizers, food products technologies, biodegradable plastic and milk urea detection  kit developed by the varsity scientists.      
            An exhibition of technologies identified for commercialization was also put up on the occasion.
