Hooda underlines contribution by legal fraternity

CHANDIGARH, Sept 25

 Haryana Chief Minister  Bhupinder Singh Hooda today  underlined the significant contribution being made by the legal fraternity  in bringing about a meaningful change in social mores, but also expressed his concern about practical problems being faced by the advocates, especially  the non-availability of proper sitting space in the court complexes.

          The Chief Minister was speaking at a function where Union Law and Justice Minister, Mr Kapil Sibal inaugurated  a new Bar Complex Extension-I at Bar Complex  of Punjab and Haryana High Court here today.

          Mr Hooda said that the legal fraternity  has always played the role of a torch-bearer for progressive values in our society. He said that having led many social struggles from the front, this fraternity has played a significant role in ushering in social as well as economic revolution in times of need. It needs no reminder that even the movement for independence of the country was led by the legal luminaries of those times.

The Chief Minister said that as he himself had been a member of the this profession,  he was fully conscious of the difficulties faced by the advocates in the discharge of their day-to-day responsibilities. One of them concerns is the non-availability of proper sitting space for the advocates in the court complexes despite the fact that they constitute an integral part of the judicial dispensation. It is a fact that lawyers who constitute the cornerstone of judicial system, are left to fend for themselves. They are often seen struggling to find space to place their belongings, and for a place to attend to their clients. Though the legal profession is regarded as a noble profession, the facilities and arrangements available to the advocates are at times, inadequate. This is a real practical problem for the advocates practicing in the High Court, he added.

Mr Hooda was all praise for Judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the Chandigarh Administration as it was because of their efforts that the extension of the new Bar Complex had become a reality. “The extension may not entirely answer the problems, but it is certainly a step in the direction of mitigating the problems faced by the advocates. The  High Court has addressed the problems faced by the advocates and taken concrete and conscious steps to restore the dignity and pride of members of the Bar by making adequate arrangements at their workplace so that they can perform their duties without any hassles” added Mr Hooda.

 Mr Hooda said that he was sure, the facilities offered by the extension of the new Bar Complex would provide some relief to the members. He  congratulated the members of the Bar Association and expressed his gratitude to the  Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court as well as judges of this  Court for converting the dream of the extension into a reality.

Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Chairman Building Committee Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Rajiv Bhalla, President, Bar Assocation Mr. Anmol Ratan Sidhu and senior judges of Punjab and Haryana High Court and members of Bar Association were also present on this occasion.
