Army to conduct selection rally for sportspersons

 Boys Sports Company, Madras Engineer Group and Centre, Bangalore will conduct selection rally to select candidates for hockey, swimming and boxing disciplines at "Loomba Stadium" Madras Engineer Group and Centre, Bangalore from  October23 to 27.
            While stating this here today, an official spokesman said that the selection would remain provisional until approved by Army Headquarters or Sports Authority of India. He said that for hockey or boxing, players between 11 years to 16 years as on 31 March 2014 and for swimming those between 9 years to 13 years as on  March 31, 2011 will be eligible. He said that they should have passed Class Vltn  having adequate knowledge of English and Hindi.
He said that players in age group of 11 years should have minimum height of 144 cm and 32 kg weight, those in age group of 12 years should have minimum height of 154 cm and 35 kg weight, those in age group of 13 years should have minimum height of 158 cm and 42 kg weight, those in age group of 14 years should have minimum height of 158 cm and 47 kg weight and those in age group of 15 years should have minimum height of 168 cm and 50 kg weight. He said that Medical Fitness of the players would be ascertained by Medical Officer of MEG and Centre and Specialist of Army Sports Medicine Centre.
          He said that selected candidates would be provided academic training from VII to X standard free of cost in English medium in Boys Sports Company, MEG and Centre. Besides, intensive coaching in Boxing, Hockey and Swimming would also be provided by Sports Authority of India (SAI) Coaches or Army Coaches. On passing Xth Standard Exam, the candidates would be put through selection process as applicable for enrolment into Army. On completion of Xth Standard and on attaining the age of 17.5 years, it is mandatory for the Sports Cadets to undergo the selection process for enrolment into Army and get enrolled into Madras Engineer Group. He said that in case of failure to be enrolled into Army for any, reason, parents of affected boys are liable to reimburse the cost of expenditure incurred by the Government on such boys.  Parents of selected-boys would be required to give an undertaking on stamp paper to this effect prior to induction into Boys Sports Company MEG and Centre, Bangalore. MEG  and  Centre.
