CHANDIGARH, MARCH 18
Mr Shrikant Walgad, Chief Electoral Officer of Haryana, has issued directions prohibiting the use of video-conferencing during the pendency of the Model Code of Coduct for the Lok Sabha elections.
Stating this here today, a spokesman of the Election Department said since the code had come into force, no video-conferencing should take place between the chief minister, ministers and other political functionaries of the state government and officials, individually or collectively.
Mr Walgad has also issued necessary directions for prevention of defacement of property and other campaign related items.
He said that in states where there was no specific law governing prevention of defacement of property, the instructions provide that display of easily removable material such as flags, banners, hoardings could be done on private property or premises with the prior consent of the owner or occupier of the property.
However, in those states where the state or local defacement law specifically prohibits display of flags, hoardings, banners, the provisions in the law will strictly apply and such material would not be displayed on private property or property in public view, he added.
Mr Walgad has also directed various departments and corporations of the state government to remove the photographs and messages of political executives from their respective websites until the code is in force.
He said that the instructions issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) made it mandatory to remove photos and messages of political executives from various websites of departments and corporations of the government since the code came into operation. It has been observed that such content has not been removed from all websites. Hence, directions have been issued for removal of such content from websites.
