No proposal to increase bus fare: Aftab Ahmed

The Haryana Transport Minister, Mr Aftab Ahmed, has said that there is no proposal to increase bus fares in the state. This was disclosed by Mr Aftab while talking to media persons after presiding over a review meeting of the Haryana Roadways, here today.
He said that state government was providing comfortable transport service to the people throught the Haryana Roadways fleet of 4,025 buses. Transport facilities in the rural areas have also been ensured by the government. Apart from this, free or concessional travel
facility is given to senior citizens, women and girls students.
Earlier, while reviewing the transport services, the minister directed the General Managers of Haryana Roadways to ensure plying of buses on all routes and post traffic managers at roadways sub-depots. He also reviewed the facility of free travel given to the girl’s students.
The Principal Secretary Transport, Mr. R.R. Jowel, directed the General Managers to rationalize the routes of buses to ensure better transport services to the people. Steps should be taken to ensure that buses plied between 6 am and 8 pm on normal routes.
Later while presiding over a meeting of the Regional Transport Authorities, Mr Aftab Ahmed directed them to effectively monitor inter-state transport vehicles plying without permit.
The Transport Commissioner, Mrs. Sumita Misra, told the minister that the department had collected Rs 1,094.85 crore as revenue during 2013-14 against the target of Rs 850 crore which is 128.97 per cent of the target. She asked officers to immediately start
driving training schools at all depots at district headquarters. Apart from this, RTAs should ensure checking of the inter-state plying of buses on a fortnightly basis.
Mrs. Misra directed the RTAs to conduct regular meetings of District Road Safety Committees constituted to ensure road safety.
Also, they should ensure setting up of the Road Safety Clubs in every college. Report about these activities should also be sent through email to the head office. "I will be expecting your tentative plan about road safety activities on email", she said.
Mrs. Misra also directed them to physically check commercial vehicles at least once in a year to ensure that these fulfilled all mandatory requirements. The RTAs must ensure proper implementation of the Surakshit School Vahan Policy and send a report about it to her office.
The Director General, State Roadways, Mr Vineet Garg, Additional Transport Commissioners. Mr. A.S. Maan, Mr. Bhupinder, Mr. Jagdeep Dhanda, all RTAs and General Manager of Haryana Roadways participated in the meeting.
