United Kingdom and Haryana today decided to strengthen their cooperation in the areas of education and skill development, health, waste management and explore opportunities in other areas as well.
A delegation led by British Deputy High Commissioner, Northwest India, Mr David Lelliott, which called on Haryana Chief Secretary Mr S. C. Chaudhary here today had detailed discussion on diverse issues for mutual cooperation.
The UK delegation expressed satisfaction on the growing ties between the two sides, which would be beneficial for both of them. Mr. David Lelliott informed that they had fruitful discussions and associations in the past on the diverse issues related to education
and skill development, health, waste management etc. and that they were keen to take forward these initiatives. He said the United Kingdom would also explore opportunities in other areas.
Haryana Chief Secretary briefed the delegation about the demographic and geographic features of the State. The State has a developed economy with growing services and industrial sectors. The State is also a leading State in agriculture sector. A lot of emphasis
has been laid by the State Government on healthcare, education and skill development, affordable low cost housing, renewable energy, water and waste management and agriculture sector. Mr Chaudhary said that the State would welcome initiatives from the UK which would benefit State in these and other sectors.
Managing Director, Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC), Mr Tarun Bajaj, explained about the initiatives taken by the State Government in industrial and infrastructure development. He said that the State has a well developed and wide-spread industrial infrastructure, as a result a large number of multi-nationals, including UK based companies and domestic enterprises have set up their projects in the State.
Industrial Model Townships and Industrial Estates have been established throughout the State, wherein the companies can set-up their projects in fast-track mode. These areas not only have space for industrial projects, but also have institutional, commercial and housing infrastructure facilities. He invited the delegation to visit and witness these facilities.
Corporate Director of Development, Nottingham City Council, Mr. David Bishop, said that Nottingham is a prosperous area in the UK with vibrant and growing economy. The region has an efficient and wide-spread transport system and state-of-the-art infrastructure
facilities. There was tremendous scope for co-operation and partnerships with the State of Haryana.
The UK delegation extended invitation for a visit by the State delegation to the UK, especially Nottingham region, to have detailed information and insight about various projects and infrastructure facilities and sites and discuss possibilities for even greater collaborations between the two sides.
Other members of the UK delegation included Mr. Chris Henning, Director of Economic Development, Nottingham City Council; Mr. Charanjiv Singh Bachhar, Deputy Head of Mission, British Deputy High Commission; Mr. Thalej Vasishta, Managing Director and Senior Solicitor, Paragon Law; and Mr. Darshan Teredesai, Gleeds Hooloomann Consulting.
