PM hints as stringent measures to eradicate corruption

CHANDIGARH, AUG 19
 Prime Minister Narendra Modi today hinted at stringent measures to eradicate the menace of corruption from the society and added that he was feeling that now the people would not bear this social evil.
          The Prime Minister was speaking after laying the foundation stone of Rs 1393 crore four-laning project of 166 km long Kaithal-Narwana-Barwala-Hisar-Siwani National Highway up to Rajasthan Border at Kaithal today.
          The audience at the venue responded in affirmative when the Prime Minister asked them whether he should take strong measures to check corruption. The Prime Minister described corruption as more deadly than the cancer which was adversely affecting the national life in the country. He also emphasized on the need for generation of employment opportunities adding that the people were now feeling that they should not remain backward, they have to progress and the only way to achieve this was to make development. Therefore, development of infrastructure would be given priority, he added.
          He said that after his address to the nation on August 15, some people had pointed out that he did not speak against corruption. He reminded that he had said that if somebody has to do any work, one would ask ‘Mera Kya’ (What for me). If the work is not done, one would say ‘Mujhe Kya’ (What to me). This sense of ‘Mera Kya’ and ‘Mujhe Kya’ has spoiled the nation.
          He also emphasized to change the century-old infrastructure adding that with the changing times, the people have the desire to have new infrastructural facilities. It was high time to have gas-grid, power-grid, improved connectivity, have broadband facility, optical fibres and ensure speedy development of villages. Efforts were being made to meet the demands of the new generation.
          He said that while taking a cue from the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana initiated by the former Prime Minister Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee, another scheme known as Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana would be implemented. He was all praise for the farmers of Haryana who feed the nation, but said that the farmers do not earn much. Therefore, it was high time to give a new direction to the agriculture which would not only increase the agricultural production, but would also enhance the income of the farmers. He sought cooperation of the people in making Haryana more developed.
          The Prime Minister assured his support for the development of the state, saying that the love and affection that they have shown would be repaid with interest. He recalled his association with Haryana and appreciated the people of Haryana for their wit and humour. He said that he had learnt a lot from the state. He said that the four-laning project for which he has laid the foundation stone would connect Haryana-Rajasthan and would benefit not only these two states, but also the entire country. The Prime Minister said that the mantra of development must reach all. We must change the fate of Haryana and make it a front runner state.
          Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Mr Nitin Gadkari said that eight new projects involving an investment of Rs 10,000 crore would be initiated and ten ongoing projects that had been delayed because of some legal issues like land acquisition and environment clearances would be got cleared. He said that Skill Development Corporation would be set up to give employment to the unemployed. He said that a target has been fixed to increase the GDP by two per cent in two years.
          Union Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping, Mr Krishanpal Gurjar said that not only the promises made to the people would be fulfilled, but more than that would be achieved. The Central Government has prepared a road map for development of Haryana. He said that compensation for land acquisition would be given on new increased rates. He assured the farmers that the Central Government would not harm them.
          Others present on the occasion included Haryana Governor Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki, Union Minister of State Rao Inderjit Singh, Haryana Public Works (Building and Roads) Minister Mr Randeep Singh Surjewala, Lok Sabha MP Mr Raj Kumar Saini and many other prominent personalities of the area.
