New sports policy promises more incentives, modern sports infrastruture

Haryana Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Anil Vij today said that there would be a provision of sports facilities of international standards for players under the new Sports Policy-2015. Besides this, there is also a provision of 'Medal of Right' for sports winners.
        Mr. Vij was addressing the players  during the concluding ceremony of ‘Rajya Stariya Haryana Kesari and Kumar Kushti Akhada Pratiyogita’ organized at War Heroes Memorial Stadium, Ambala Cantonment today.
        Mr Vij said that the new sports policy  would be announced on the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda on January 12 from Rohtak in a function to be presided over by the Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal. It  would ensure that the medal winners of international sports events do not need to approach anyone for the purpose of job and honour. Rather they would get it as their right.        
  The Sports Minister said that there is also a plan to increase the award money in wrestling manifolds which would be announced soon. He said that sports policy has been amended by keeping in view the interest of sportspersons. Under the policy, the sportspersons would be provided with sports facilities of international standards so that they can prepare themselves to win medals in international sports events. Now players have to pass one more test apart from SPAT where they can choose the sports of their interest. For the grooming of such young players, sports academies and sports nurseries would be established.
        He said that the award money for Haryana Kesari has been increased to Rs 1.51 lakh from Rs 31 lakh and for Haryana Kumar, it has been increased to Rs 51,000 from Rs 21,000. Similarly,  a scheme also in plan to increase the award money for wrestling champion, for first
position Rs 11,000 instead of Rs 500, for second position Rs 5,100 instead of Rs 300 and for third position Rs 3,100 instead of Rs 200.
He gave away incentive amount of Rs 2.51 lakh for the participants and also gave away cash award of Rs 3,100 to the students of Murlidhar D. A. V. Public School, Ambala for presenting cultural programme on the concluding day of Haryana Kesari and Kumar Akhara Competition.
        Mr Vij said that Sports School, Rai would be developed as sports school instead of public school and eligibility to get admission in it would be individual's sports performance instead of academic performance. He said that there is also a scheme to develop sports schools on the pattern of Rai sports school in other areas of the state. In Rai School for shooting range, guns worth Rs 80 lakh have been provided to train students in shooting and for the extension of sports activities, there is a provision of Rs eight crore grant. He said that in the forthcoming National Games beginning from January 31, the participation of players of Haryana would be ensured by the three member committee and there would be no role of two factions of Haryana
Olympic Association.
        He said that after implementing sports policy, youth policy would be formulated. The guideline draft of this policy would be formulated based on the suggestions by specialists in youth affairs from all over the country. In youth policy, the energy of youth would be channelized in right and positive direction.
In the competitions, Mandeep of district Rohtak won the Haryana Kesari award by defeating Anil of district Bhiwani in a tough and interesting match. While Yogeshwar of district Sonepat secured the third position. Similarly, Amit of district Jind by giving better
performance defeated Ankur Rathi of Sonepat and won the Haryana Kumar award.
        On this occasion, gold medal winner of Commonwealth Games in Wrestling, Radhey Shyam, former player of Ambala Cantt. and International Technical Officer and Coach Mohinder Singh of Ambala Cantt. were also honoured.
