Chandigarh, August 2
With annual milk production of 79.01 tonnes, Haryana ranks at number two in availability of milk which is 805 gram per day per person whereas at national level the per day per person milk availability is 302 grams. The State Government is committed towards all round development of animal husbandry sector.
While giving this information today, a spokesman of the Animal Husbandry and Dairying Department said that ‘Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausamvardhan Bill, 2015’ has been passed in budget session of Vidhan Sabha to put a complete ban of cow slaughter in the state. This law is stringent and best one for safety of cows, he added.
He said that the Central Government has accorded approval to over Rs 24 crore for development of indigenous cows like Hariana, Sahiwal and Gir under National Project for Cattle and Buffalo Breeding. This programme would be implemented for three years. Apart from this to promote rearing of high quality Hariana and Sahiwal cows, incentive ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 was being provided from this year on the basis of milk production.
The spokesman said that the State Government has made a provision to provide 50 per cent grant from current financial year on purchase value of cows for setting up Small Dairy Units of indigenous cows. Also from current financial year, a provision has been made to provide 50 per cent grant to Scheduled Castes families for setting up units of dairy, pig, sheep and goat. So far banks have approved loans for 77 units and two such units have been set up.
He said that ‘Rashtriya Gokul Mission’ has been implemented for safety and conservation of indigenous cow breeds under which the Central Government has made a provision of Rs 53.88 crore for three years.
