Scholarship amount doubled for Sainik Schools cadets

CHANDIGARH, SEPT 21
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal has doubled the scholarship amount being given to cadets of Sainik Schools at Kunjpura and Rewari. Now, they would get Rs 50,000 annually as scholarship instead of Rs 25,000. Also, he gave approval to increase their diet allowance from Rs 25 to Rs 75 per day. With this decision, the cadets of both schools would get benefit of more than Rs 3.62 crore every year.
The Chief Minister was presiding over a review meeting of functioning of Sainik Schools here today. Principal of Sainik School, Kunjpura, Col. Y.S. Parmar and Principal of Sainik School, Rewari, Gp. Capt. Rajiv Sharma gave presentation of the activities being undertaken by their respective schools.
The Chief Minister said that it was the priority of the government to provide quality education, be it in government schools or private schools. He said that the Sainik Schools could act as inspiration to other schools. Therefore, the Sainik Schools should also invite government schools for visiting their campus as the learning methodology and environment there was different and more disciplined.
In the meeting, a sum of Rs 2.5 crore has been approved for completing the pending works of first phase of Sainik School, Rewari and Rs 10.17 crore for second phase. Apart from this, approval of Rs 23 crore has also been given for construction of hostel building. The Chief Minister said that the hostel should have been set up at the time when administrative block was set up.
The Chief Minister also directed the Public Works (Building and Roads) Department to explore possibilities of alternative systems based on modular design for construction of hostel building.
In the meeting, approval was also given to fix the income limit of parents for providing scholarships to students. The income limit should be 1.60 lakh, two lakh, 2.5 lakh and three lakh. It was also informed in the meeting that 656 students were studying in Sainik School, Kunjpura and 468 students in Sainik School, Rewari.
Chief Secretary, Mr. D.S. Dhesi, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Mr. Sanjeev Kaushal, Additional Chief Secretary, Finance, Mr. P.K. Das, Secretary, Rajya Sainik Board, Brig. S.C. Rangi, Wing Commander S.K. Rai and other officers were also present in the meeting.
