10th Pinjore Heritage Festival concludes

Fervour and excitement marked the concluding day of the 10th Pinjore Heritage Festival as the young and old alike reached the majestic Pinjore Gardens in droves on a bright Sunday. The vibrant ambience of the Festival blended with entertaining cultural programmes, interesting competitions for school students and engaging activities promised a great outing for visitors on a pleasant Sunday morning.
While giving this information here today, Principal Secretary, Tourism, Dr. Sumita Misra, said that the Festival extends an opportunity to the people of this region to rediscover their shared heritage with joy and pride.
Managing Director, Haryana Tourism Corporation, Mr. Vikas Yadav, Managing Director, said that the Festival is an eagerly awaited calendar event and this year too, it has garnered a great response from people.
Throughout the day, visitors thronged the ‘Apna Ghar of Haryana’, a unique feature created at the Festival for the first time, to catch a glimpse of the weavers, potters and ironsmiths demonstrating their skills. They also lapped up their economically-priced handmade products.
The masqueraders dressed up as Lord Krishna, Naradmuni and Jinpasha were also a centre of attraction at the Festival, as their nuances and mannerisms amused many. Rajasthan-based siblings Shamshad, Firoz and Farid Khan came all the way to the Festival to perform as masqueraders (bahrupias). Shamshad said that this is an art passed on to them from their previous generations and now they improvise their skills to match the need of the changing times. From being spies to kings at one time, they are now hardcore entertainers and people like to click selfies with them.
However, the showstoppers of the day were the senior citizens, who were the special invitees of the day. They participated in the best-dressed person competition, in which B.M. Gupta and Mrs. Sajinder Kaur were adjudged the best. The seniors exhibited a lot of stamina and energy as they danced to foot-tapping music, sang songs and played instruments on the stage.
Revving up the entertainment quotient, a photo booth was set up for visitors to get their photographs clicked in Mughalai costumes. The giddha, bhangra and jangam dancers from the North Zone Culture Centre, Patiala gave riveting performances.
The Crafts Bazaar was another crowd-puller, as people got to shop from an array of pocket-friendly handlooms and handicraft stalls set up at the Festival. The visitors enjoyed mouth-watering dishes and street food at the Food Court.
Students from various schools enthusiastically participated in mehndi, drawing and group folk dance competitions. About 200 schoolchildren participated in these competitions. The group dance competition saw students in the age group of 10 to 13 years (junior batch) and 14 to 16 years (senior batch) give spellbinding performances on stage that entertained the audience to the hilt.
In the mehndi competition, the first, second and third prizes in the senior group were bagged by Nisha and Suman of Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Barwala, Nisha and Poonam of Government Senior Secondary School, Kalka and Jaspreet and Muskaan of St. Soldier School, Dhakoli, respectively. The consolation prize was won by Sheetal and Devika of Girls Senior Secondary School, Mandana. In the junior group, the top three positions were bagged by Nandini and Sinka of Hindu Girls Senior Secondary School, Kalka, Ankita and Anjali of St. Soldier School, Dhakoli, and Shivani Sharma and Pirti of Government Senior Secondary School, Pinjore. The consolation prize was bagged by Aanchal and Gurgeet of Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Barwala.
In the drawing competition, Harsh, a student of Class 8, Kanak Goyal of Gurukul, Sector 20, Tanishi of Gurukul, Sector 20 and Rohit of Government Model Sanskriti, Sector 20, won the first, second, third and consolation prizes, respectively, in the junior group. In the senior group, the top three and consolation prizes were won by Tanya Bhardwaj of St. Vivekanand Millenium, Pinjore, Sakshi of New India, Pinjore, Sakshi Goyal of DAV, Surajpur and Rupali of St. Vivekanand Millenium, Pinjore, respectively.
In the group folk dance competitions, teams from G.P.S. Rehod, Barwala, Panchkula, Bal Bharti School, Kalka and Nobel High School bagged the first, second and third prizes, respectively, in the junior group. In the junior group, Vishva Shiksha Niketan High School, St. Soldier, Dhakoli and Nobel High School, Pinjore, won the first, second and third prizes, respectively.
