Door-to-door garbage collection in Ambala

CHANDIGARH, NOV 3
Municipal Corporation, Ambala becomes the first civic body in the State where citizens have been provided with the facility of door-to-door garbage collection. Under Swaach Bharat Mission launched by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, Municipal Corporation Ambala has started a scheme for collecting garbage from every house in all its 20 wards. Under a scheme started in coordination with a private agency, 10 rehris would be pressed into service for collection of garbage in each ward. The number of rehris would be increased as per the requirement.
          This was stated by Haryana Minister of State for Renewable Energy Mr. Nayab Singh Saini during inauguration of the scheme from Ambala city late last evening. MLA Mr. Assem Goel was also present on this occasion.
          Mr. Saini said that this would not only make Ambala clean and healthy but would also give impetus to Swacchta Mission launched by Prime Minister Mr. Modi and Chief Minister Mr. Manohar Lal. He called upon the people to provide their unstinted support so as to ensure its success.  He also emphasized the need for garbage collection from markets besides households.
          Speaking on this occasion, MLA Mr. Aseem Goel said that indeed it’s a significant initiative started by joint efforts of Corporation and all citizens could collectively make Ambala neat and clean. While emphasizing the need to add sanitation activities into daily routine, he said that mindset of people towards sanitation should be changed. He also highlighted about various projects of town including Rs 97 crore plan prepared under Atal Bharat Mission for making Ambala flood-free, Rs 10.53 crore funds for construction of Ambala drain, a flood control scheme costing Rs 2.20 crore for Naseerpur and efforts made during last one year for sanitation as well as for drainage.
          MC Commissioner Mr. Ajay Singh Tomer said that the work of garbage collection has been entrusted to Pooja Consultation Company. In case, company did not collect garbage on daily basis, fine of Rs 1000 per household for first offence and Rs 2000 per household for second offence would be imposed. Before release of payment to contractor, firm would have to present satisfactory report from Sanitation Inspector and Municipal Counselors of respective wards. Apart from this, rehris for garbage collection, vehicles, staff, safety equipments and other required facilities have been arranged by company at their own level. The wages to safaikaramcharis would be paid on DC rates. Company would also establish four complaint centres in Municipal area for receiving grievances and their redressal where company would station their own personnel.
          He said that it would be responsibility of contractor to unload garbage collected from households to Solid Waste Management Plant. In addition, contractor would also have to collect garbage from  drains, he added.
