Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal said that Civil Hospital of every district would be upgraded to 300 beds so as to meet the initial requirement for opening a Medical College in each district.
The Chief Minster was speaking after inaugurating five-day 75th annual conference of Association of Surgeons of India (ASICON-2015) at Gurgaon today.
The Chief Minister said that a Medical College would be opened in all 21 districts to meet the requirement of doctors in the state. With the establishment of these Medical Colleges, the state would get about 2000 doctors every year.
As per the norms of World Health Organization (WHO), there should be one doctor on a population of 1000 and presently Haryana is lagging behind in this direction. However, Haryana is far ahead as compared to country’s ratio. Haryana’s population is about 2.5 crore according to which there should be 25000 doctors in the state as per WHO norms but presently 10000 doctors are serving in the state. A medical college in each district would be opened to fill this gap and this would be achieved during the tenure of the present government. He said that recently 380 new doctors have been joined in the state.
He said that recently foundation stone of a private medical collage named after Maharaja Agrasen was laid in Bahadurgarh in district Jhajjar. Similarly, there is a plan to open a medical college in Bhiwani and Kalpana Chawla Medical University is also being set up in Karnal. Not only this, Krishna Government Ayurvedic Collage, Kurukshetra would be upgraded to the level of University. He said that bhoomi pujan of country’s largest National Cancer Institute, being set up at AIIMS-II campus, Badhsa, Jhajjar, have also been performed. A proposal to open a medical college of AIIMS at village Manethi in district Rewari has also been sent to Central government. AIIMS-II would be connected with National Highway so as to provide better road connectivity.
The Chief Minister said that it is a matter of happiness that India has almost become polio free and going to be leprosy free. Now there is a need to make the country TB free. In this direction, TB free Haryana campaign had been launched from Gurgaon.
PWD (B&R) Minister Rao Narbir Singh and Chief Parliamentary Secretary Dr. Kamal Gupta, Secretary of the Association Dr. Madhu Shekhar also spoke on this occasion.
MLAs Mr. Tajpal Tanwar, Mr. Sukhwinder Mandhi, Mrs. Bimla Choudhry and other dignitaries were also present on this occasion.
