The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal, today said that the world has become a ‘Global Village’ due to media because the information of any happening in any part of the world is transmitted throughout the world in just a few seconds by the media. In fact, the media has contributed in uniting the world, he said.
Mr. Manohar Lal was speaking at the inauguration of the Printing Unit of a Hindi National Daily in IMT Manesar of district Gurgaon today. He said that challenges often come in the field of journalism and at times the journalist has to put his life in danger for extracting information and news. He said that the Haryana Government has set up a ‘Pratrakar Kalyan Kosh’ (Journalist Welfare Fund) for providing financial help to the journalists in need.
He said that the media has made a big contribution in bringing awareness in the society and it gives right direction to the society. He added that the print media has faced challenges from various quarters. First, on the advent of Electronic Media, a question was raised that now who will read the print media or newspapers but this thought was proved wrong and people posed faith in newspapers, because they can be saved and stored easily. They can be produced as evidence or proof anywhere. Then came the challenge of Social Media, including Twitter, Facebook, Whatsapp, blogs, etc. but print media still remained the choice of the readers and newspapers have an important place in the lives of the people. He said that newspapers also help in taking the welfare policies and programmes to the general masses.
The Chief Minister took the opportunity to elaborate about the welfare schemes and policies of the state government. He said that the state government has focused on e-governance so that the benefits directly reach the beneficiaries for whom the scheme has been devised, reducing human interface, which sometimes poses hindrance in delivering benefits to the beneficiaries.
He said that a Biometric Attendance System has been started in the state and more than 85,000 government employees are coming to office on time. Mentioning the compensation given to farmers for their damaged crops last year, the Chief Minister said that the Union Government has introduced a new crop insurance scheme which will help in compensating the damages to crops due to natural calamities.
Referring to the development of Gurgaon, Mr. Manohar Lal said that every Chief Minister cared for Gurgaon but for different reasons. He said, “We will also take care of Gurgaon. It is our icon, which will be shown to attract people within and outside the country.” He said that this was his third tour to Gurgaon this month, which shows the importance he is giving to the city. He said that he was aware of the challenges being faced in Gurgaon. He added that police stations solely for women had been opened in every district of the state, and now the government has proposed to open such police stations in every sub-division of the state.
