Craftpersons honoured as Surajkund International Crafts Mela ends

 CHANDIGARH, FEB 15
The fortnight long 30th Surajkund International Crafts Mela-2016 concluded today. It was visited by over 15 lakh visitors.  Haryana Governor, Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki, who presided over the concluding day function of the Mela at Surajkund   said that Surajkund International Crafts Mela has given a distinct identity to Haryana at international level, with 23 countries participating in this fair this year.
        Prof. Solanki also felicitated craftspersons by giving away six Kala Mani, six Kala Nidhi and four Kala Shree awards. He also gave away Paramparagat, Kala Ratna and Sarvashrestha Shilpi awards.
         Prof. Solanki said that the Crafts Mela promotes the cultural heritage of Haryana by providing a platform to hundreds of domestic and international artisans and artistes.
        Expressing gratitude towards Haryana Government for making Telangana the Theme State of the Mela, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Kadiyam Srihari announced that a similar Mela would soon be organized in Telangana. He said that the Mela helps in establishing a distinct identity on international level.
        Haryana Tourism Minister, Mr. Ram Bilas Sharma said that the Mela recorded footfall of more than 15 lakh.
        Haryana Governor and Telangana Deputy Chief Minister also released research report on Telangana.
        Principal Secretary, Tourism, Dr. Sumita Misra also spoke on the occasion.
