The third Science City of the country will be developed by Haryana Government over an area of 44 acres in the campus of Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology, Murthal, in district Sonepat.
This was stated by Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal, who was speaking at a programme organised to mark the birth anniversary of Sir Chhotu Ram at the Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology at Murthal today.
The Chief Minister said that the development of this Science City, which would be the first of its kind in Haryana, would boost tourism and provide new opportunities for scientific discoveries to students. The two other Science Cities have been established at Kolkata in West Bengal and Kapurthala in Punjab.
He said that a horticulture university was being established in Karnal, which would usher in a new revolution in the field of agriculture. He said that centres of this university would be opened in Jhajjar, Jind and Naraingarh. Apart from this, the centre at Bawal would again be made functional. He said that with the establishment of International Terminal Market for fruits and vegetables over an area of 600 acres at Ganaur in district Sonepat, farmers in the surrounding areas would get a bigger market than the Azadpur Mandi.
Mr. Manohar Lal said that the State Government has decided to provide skill development training to the wards of farmers. A Skill Development University in Faridabad has been proposed for this purpose.
Reiterating the State Government’s commitment towards promoting development of industries in the State and generating employment opportunities for the youth, he said that a target has been set to invite investment of Rs one lakh crore in Haryana, which would generate employment opportunities for four lakh youth. He said that the State Government is organising the “Happening Haryana Global Investors’ Summit-2016” at Gurgaon on March 7 and 8, 2016, to woo investors and project Haryana as a preferred destination for investment.
Paying floral tributes to Sir Chhotu Ram, the Chief Minister said that his birth anniversary was a happy occasion for farmers. He described the leader as the saviour of farmers who had devoted his life for the cause of the farmers and the poor. He said that during his long struggle, Sir Chhotu Ram not only rescued farmers from the clutches of moneylenders, but also fought to get them ownership rights of land.
He said that the State Government was following the principles set by Sir Chhotu Ram in the interest of farmers. The farmers in the State were provided compensation to the tune of Rs 1,092 crore for the damage caused to the crops.This was given in a record time. Cotton growers in Haryana whose crops were affected by Whitefly attack would soon be provided compensation. Apart from this, Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, has launched the ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’ so that farmers do not have to depend on the Government for compensation, he added.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister also flagged off the 6th Quarter Marathon and joined the participants in the Marathon. He also inaugurated the Multipurpose Indoor Sports Complex built at a cost of Rs 4.61 crore and unveiled 11 statues depicting the Dandi March led by Mahatma Gandhi in 1931, at Shreejee International School.
Those present on the occasion included Haryana Social Justice and Empowerment Minister, Mrs. Kavita Jain, Member of Parliament, Mr. Ramesh Kaushik, BJP State Vice-President, Mr. Rajeev Jain and other prominent personalities of the area.
