Govt waives off house tax and water tariff to give relief to victims of recent agitation

CHANDIGARH, MARCH 3
Giving a major relief to those whose residential and commercial properties were damaged during the recent distressing incidents in the state, the Haryana Government has decided to waive off the house tax and water tariff on such properties for one year.
          This was disclosed by the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mr Ram Bilas Sharma, while interacting with media persons after a meeting of the State Cabinet presided over by the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, here today.
      It may be recalled that the Chief Minister has already waived electricity dues for the current and next billing cycles of all those consumers whose houses or commercial properties were damaged or looted during the recent agitation from February 15 to 22, 2016. Also, the state government has decided in principle to give relief in VAT to such traders and businessmen as suffered losses during the recent agitation.
          In reply to a question, Mr Sharma said that the ensuing Budget session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha would commence on March 14, 2016. All MLAs would be given adequate time to put forth the problems and demands of the people of their respective constituencies.
          Asked about the number of sittings of the House during the Budget Session, he said that it would be finalized by the Business Advisory Committee (BAC). The date for presentation of the budget would be fixed during the first sitting of the Vidhan Sabha.
          Asked to comment on the Happening Haryana Global Investors Summit to be organized at Gurgaon on March 7and 8, 2016, Mr Sharma said he was quite hopeful that the summit would attract good response. As a result of the Chief Minister’s visit to US, Canada, Japan and China and during the road shows held at Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai in the run-up to the Summit, entrepreneurs have shown keen interest in investing in the state. The Wanda Group of China has decided to make huge investments in Haryana.
          Asked about the draft of the Bill on Jat reservation to be presented in the Vidhan Sabha, Mr Sharma said that a five-member committee had been constituted under the Chairmanship of the Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mr Venkaiah Naidu, to examine this issue.
      In reply to a question, the minister said that a former  DGP of Uttar Pradesh, Mr Prakash Singh, had been appointed to probe the acts of omission and commission on the part of officers and officials in handling violence during the Jat agitation.  Mr K P Singh, DGP Crime, Haryana Police, has also been appointed  DG with the Prakash Singh Committee to assist Mr Singh.
