Punjab decision on SYL a challenge to Apex Court: Vij

CHANDIGARH, MARCH 11
The Haryana Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Mr. Anil Vij, has said that any announcement on the Satluj-Yamuna Link (SYL) Canal issue made by the Punjab Government in the Vidhan Sabha before the Supreme Court decision amounts to challenging the authority of the apex court.
Mr Vij who was addressing a press conference here today, asked the Punjab Government not to vitiate the atmosphere in the region by issuing such statements and wait for the apex court decision. Whatever decision is taken by the Supreme Court should be respected.
The former Punjab Chief Minister, Capt. Amarinder Singh, who belonged to the Congress, had also taken one-sided decision to terminate the SYL Agreement, which was not in accordance with the country’s democracy and the Constitution.
Replying to a question, Mr Vij reiterated that there was no conflict of any kind among the Haryana Cabinet members.
Is there any possibility of Haryana getting water direct from Himachal Pradesh by constructing an alternate water channel?
Answering a question regarding the arrest of those accused of violence, loot and vandalism during the recent agitation for Jat reservation in the state, Mr Vij said that only those persons against whom the police had solid evidence were being arrested. The priority of Jat leaders should be to promote brotherhood in the state instead of advocating for such persons. He clarified that police were not taking any action against innocent people.
