Supreme Court stays SYL denotification Bill on SYL

CHANDIGARH, MARCH 17
The Supreme Court today stayed the Bill passed by Punjab Assembly about denotification of land of Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) Canal.
This was stated by Haryana Chief Minister Mr Manohar Lal during ongoing budget session of Haryana Vidhan Sabha here today.
He said that the Court has also declared the canal as a case property. Punjab Director General of Police, Chief Secretary and Punjab Home Secretary as well as Union Home Secretary will be personally responsible for any breach or other damage of the SYL Canal in Punjab.
Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister said that he has also spoken to Punjab Chief Minister, Mr Parkash Singh Badal and expressed his displeasure over the Punjab Government’s move on the SYL canal.
While pointing out that the Haryana government has shown strong resentment over Punjab Government’s unconstitutional move on the issue of SYL canal, he said that he has returned the cheque in original to Punjab government which was sent to Haryana Government yesterday.
“We are constantly in touch with Centre on SYL issue. I have spoken to Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi. Our all Members of Parliament have also met the Prime Minister on this issue” added Mr Manohar Lal.
He said that as the move of Punjab government on SYL canal is unconstitutional, he has requested Punjab Governor Mr Kaptan Singh Solanki not to sign the Bill.
