Increase in bus fare in Haryana approved

CHANDIGARH, JUNE 28
 Haryana Cabinet, which met under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal here today, approved the proposal of the Transport Department to revise the standard or ordinary bus fare in view of the increase in operational cost, which has increased after 2012-13, when the fares were last revised and also in view of the per kilometer fare prevailing in neighbouring States.
          The ordinary bus fare in Haryana will be increased by 10 paisa per passenger per kilometer. With this, the ordinary bus fare will increase from 60 paise per kilometer to 68 paise per passenger per kilometer and chargeable fare accordingly, will increase from 75 to 85 paise per passenger per kilometer. This includes 25 per cent Passenger Tax. This fare will still be lower than the chargeable fare in Punjab, Himachal, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand.
          The bus fare of other type of services was also approved. For intra-state luxury AC buses, the fare will be 75 per cent additional of the basic fare that is 148.75 paise per passenger per kilometer. For luxury AC buses, the fare shall be 150 per cent additional of the basic fare, subject to maximum of 200 paise per passenger per kilometer on Chandigarh-Delhi-Gurgaon route. The minimum chargeable standard bus fare, including passenger tax, shall be Rs five. Freight for personal luggage would be half of the standard or ordinary bus fare per kilometer per 40 kg.
          The fare calculated, including passenger tax, for different stages of bus routes would be rounded off to the next higher rupee. The fraction below half a kilometer shall be ignored.
          It was observed that Haryana Roadways is among the best run State Road Transport Undertakings in the country and has a fleet of 4,208 buses, which are operated from 23 depots and 13 sub-depots. Haryana Roadways buses operate an average of 12.57 lakh kilometers daily and carry an average of 12.48 lakh passengers per day.
