Student unions elections

CHANDIGARH, JUNE 30
The Haryana Government has decided to get student unions elections conducted in colleges and universities in the State as per the recommendations of the Lyngdoh Committee.
             While stating this today, Education Minister Mr Ram Bilas Sharma said that, therefore, a four-member committee has been constituted under the Chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor of Guru Jambheshwar University, Hisar, Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar which would submit its report within three weeks for making arrangements for these elections.
          He said that the members of the committee included Vice-Chancellor of Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak Prof. Bijender Kumar Punia, Vice-Chancellor of Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra Prof K.C Sharma and Registrar of Indira Gandhi University, Meerpur, Rewari Dr. Madan Lal would be the members secretary of the committee.
          He said that elections to student unions in colleges and universities of the State had not been conducted for the last 20 years. But now, as promised, the BJP Government in the State has announced to conduct these elections from the current academic session for which the schedule would soon be released.  He said that elections to student unions infuse a sense of leadership among the students which is essential to ensure their bright future. In all sectors be it the private or government, one could not prove his excellence without having the quality of leadership, said the Minister.
