CHANDIGARH, JUNE 22
The Haryana Government has decided to develop a two-lane relief highway, along the banks of Western Yamuna Canal, connecting districts of Karnal, Panipat and Sonipat in Haryana as well as Bawana and Rohini in Delhi to provide an alternative route to decongest the National Highway No. 44 and open other areas for development in the state.
This was revealed in a meeting presided over by Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal to review pending issues of metro and other railway projects here today.
This new 121.302 kilometers long highway costing about Rs 1400 crore, would be constructed from Ghogripur near Karnal to outer ring road near Haidarpur Water Treatment Plant in Delhi region. The highway would be constructed under a scheme of National Capital Region Planning Board.
While reviewing the various projects, the Chief Minister directed the officers of Public Works (Building and Roads) Department to construct a magnificent and glorious Swarn Jayanti Dwar at the entry point of Gurgaon from Delhi side. Apart from this, he also directed the officers to construct welcome gates at inter-state borders on remaining 27 big or small entry points of the State to commemorate the golden jubilee of Haryana.
Describing the railway link between Kurukshetra and Haridwar of vital significance, the Chief Minister said that there is no direct railway link between these two holy cities. There is a demand from public about railway connectivity between Kurukshetra and Haridwar. He directed the officers to explore the possibilities for starting Delhi-Haridwar route via Ambala and take up the issue with Railways accordingly.
He also directed the officers to frame a policy in consultation with National Highway Authority of India for rescheduling of toll taxes being charged at various locations so that their rates can be reduced.
It was also informed in the meeting that State government has decided to elevate the existing Rohtak-Gohana railway line in Rohtak city at a cost of about Rs 230 crore.This would be first of its kind in the country. The Chief Minister also reviewed the progress of Sonipat-Jind and Rohtak-Meham-Hansi railway lines.
He also reviewed the progress of Metro projects in Haryana and gave necessary directions to the officers concerned. It was informed that Gurgaon metro, Badarpur to YMCA in Faridabad and Sikanderpur Station to NH 8, Gurgaon have already been made operational. The metro link for Sikanderpur Station to Sector-56, Gurgaon, Bahadurgarh metro project and Ballabhgarh metro projects are under implementation and would be completed by the end of December 2017. It was informed that State government has requested the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited to carry out techno feasibility study of three projects that is metro connectivity from HUDA City Centre to Old Faridbad, Extension of Delhi Metro to Kundli and Metro connectivity between Faridabad and Gurgaon.
It was informed in the meeting that during the tenure of present government, 23 Railway over Bridges and Railway under Bridges have been constructed at a cost of Rs 525 crore in the state whereas work is in progress on 22 such bridges at a cost of Rs 610 crore.
