Milk added to the mid-day meals in govt schools

CHANDIGARH, JULY 27
Come November 1 and Haryana will add another first to its bulging kitty. It will become the first state in the country to give 200 ml milk to every child studying in Classes 1 to VIII in government schools along with the mid-day meals.
Disclosing this here today, the Haryana Minister of State for Cooperation, Printing and Stationery and Urban Local Bodies, Mr Manish Kumar Grover, said that ‘Swaran Jayanti Bal Dudh Yojana’ would be started for the students in Classes I to VIII in all government schools from November 1, 2016. The Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, has approved the scheme.
Interacting with media persons after assuming office here, Mr Grover said the Cooperation Department would prepare milk powder at the milk plants in Sirsa and Jind which would be supplied to all government schools. The milk would be prepared in chocolate, vanilla and other flavours, depending upon the liking of the students.
Since there are many poor children studying in government schools who cannot afford to have milk at home, the state government has decided to introduce this ambitious scheme to meet their nutritional needs. Besides, the scheme would help in drawing more students to government schools, Mr Grover added.
