C'W delegation from UK calls on Haryana Speaker

CHANDIGARH

 A five-member Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, United Kingdom (CPA UK) delegation today called on Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Mr Kanwar Pal and exchanged information about various issues of parliamentary systems during an interactive session held at Haryana Legislative Assembly here.

          The delegation was led by Member of Parliament of Labour Party Hon David Hanson and included Member of Parliament, Conservative Party Mr Bob Blackman, House of Lords of Liberal Democratic Party Ms Baroness Barker, British Deputy High Commissioner Mr David Lelliott and Asia Pacific Programme Manager, CPA UK Mr Rober Harper.

          Apart from the Speaker, Deputy Speaker Mrs Santosh Yadav, MLAs Mr Abhay Singh Yadav, Mr Ghanshyam Dass Arora, Dr. Ravinder Baliyana, Mrs Geeta Bhukkal and Mr Karan Dalal were also present in the session.

          During the interactive session, various key issues to strengthen parliamentary systems as well as links and co-operation between Indian particularly Haryana and British parliamentarians were discussed.

          It was informed in the meeting that Haryana is entering into its 50 years of formation and celebrating its golden jubilee year. During last 50 years, the State legislature has been able to develop various health parliamentary conventions and maintain its dignity and status, with the cooperation of Leader of House, Leader of Opposition and all its members.

          It was also informed that the aims and objects of CPA UK are to develop, promote and support Parliamentarians and their staff to identify benchmarks of good governance and to implement the enduring values of the Commonwealth. The issues like contribution of parliamentarians in good governance, role and power of parliamentary committees, reservation to women in parliament, total sitting of House in a year, Role of Speaker, Education system were also discussed.

        The CPA UK delegation also invited Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker and other legislators to United Kingdom and see for themselves the proceedings of House there.
