Haryana implements Pradhan Mantri Fasal Beema Yojna’

CHANDIGARH, AUG 3
Haryana is becoming a ‘risk free state’, as insurance schemes at minimum premium covering crops, animals and people are being implemented. It is among the leading states to implement ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Beema Yojna’ and according to initial estimates in the first year about 20 per cent farmers in the state have adopted the scheme which is a good beginning. The final data is yet to come. In addition, insurance scheme for animals has also been started and people were being insured   under Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojna and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Yojna.
This was stated by   Haryana Agriculture Minister Mr Om Prakash Dhankhar while addressing a press conference in Gurgaon today. He clarified that Crop Insurance Scheme is not new but now some best concepts have been added to it and that too at minimum premium. The new scheme is completely transparent and the state government has succeeded in getting crop insurance done at minimum premium. Now the insured amount is upto Rs 25000 and the benefits of the scheme can be availed  before and after harvesting  , provided the product is still lying in the field or next crop has not been sown. Secondly, now the unit is village whereas earlier Block was the unit for insurance.  But in case of hailstorm or flooding of crops, the entire strip affected by it, will be considered as unit and not the village.
Criticizing the opposition parties for misleading the people on crop insurance scheme, Mr Dhankhar said that they are opposing it only for the sake of opposition without going into it’s merits. Now the farmers could not be misled by baseless   statements because it is an era of Information Technology and people are on social media like twitter, whatsapp and facebook. They cannot be bluffed. “Now we have covered four crops- cotton, Bajra, Paddy and maize in crop insurance and in the times to come, more crops will be included. A separate fund has been created to pay compensation for damaged crops whereas earlier the compensation used to be paid out of disaster management funds”, he added.
Replying to a question on Swaminathan Ayog, Mr Dhankhar said that BJP is implementing the recommendations of Swaminathan Commission step by step. Making farmers ‘risk free’ is among its recommendations. “We have increased compensation for crops damaged due to natural calamities or disasters which is a step forward to provide relief to farmers. The Commission has recommended  taking steps to increase the income of farmers, we are moving in that direction by motivating farmers to adopt floriculture, horticulture, dairying. The Government  is working on Peri Urban concept,  said Mr Dhankhar. He added that some people are stuck with the name of Swaminathan Ayog only and have not tried to understand its recommendations.
The BJP government is developing 54 mandies as e-mandies out of a total of 108 mandies in Haryana which will enable the farmers to sell their produce at higher rates in international market. He also said that a delegation under his leadership is going to the United States on Thursday which included two MLAs Bhagwan Das Kabirpanthi from Nilokheri and Jasbir Singh Deswal from Safidon. The Additional Chief Secretary Agriculture Mr V. S. Kundu, Director Horticulture Arjun Singh Saini and Director Animal Husbandry Dr Gajender Singh Jakhar will also be part of the delegation. There the delegation will share best practices in agriculture, farm technology, systems and experience. According to Mr Dhankhar, the delegation will also participate in Conference on Horticulture at Atlanta and also visit University of California for studying new researches and techniques adopted in the field of agriculture and horticulture. The Haryana government wants to connect farmers with cold chains, marketing and food processing so that they can earn more benefits out of agriculture, he added.
