Panel to conduct student union elections given 20 more days

CHANDIGARH, AUG 17
The Haryana Government has given 20 more days to the sub-committee constituted for conducting student union elections in colleges and universities so that it could prepare complete data pertaining to the elections.
This was disclosed by the Education Minister, Mr Ram Bilas Sharma, while interacting with media persons after presiding over a review meeting of the Higher Education Department, here today.
Earlier while addressing the meeting, he directed the vice-chancellors of the universities in the state to collect data of students from other states and countries studying in their universities and colleges affiliated to them. Due to better quality of higher education available in Haryana, the number of students from other states like Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha has been increasing, he said.
Mr. Sharma urged the vice-chancellors to organise seminars or symposiums on historical places like Saraswati river so that students could become familiar with their cultural and the value system. They should introduce such courses in universities as would facilitate skill development in students and help them in getting jobs.
The vice-chancellors should identify and hone the talents in  students and promote them according to their interests, he added.
