Haryana CM's plea to varsities to adopt villages under Swachhta Abhiyaan

CHANDIGARH, SEPT 29
 Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal today urged all the State and Private Universities to initially adopt at least five villages    for achieving the goal of Swachhta Abhiyaan   and thereafter,  set a target to adopt all villages in a block for the same purposes. The government would give special reward to such universities, he added.
        The Chief Minister was presiding over a meeting of all Vice Chancellors of the State and Private Universities to review the calendar of programmes  to be undertaken by them during the Swarna Jayanti celebrations in the state, here today.
        He also urged the technical universities to adopt five villages each and make proposals for drainage of polluted water and solid waste management. After achieving this, these universities should also make efforts   to manage the same in all villages in a block. The expenditure on these projects would be borne by the government.
        He said that the government wants to make Haryana a leading State in the country in Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan. The Government is committed to develop all its villages with the help of educational and social institutions. He also urged them to explore possibilities for getting maximum contribution from industry and corporate sector in infrastructure development in the universities.
        He also appreciated the valuable suggestions given by the Vice Chancellors for Swarna Jayanti programmes to be undertaken by them in their respective institutes and sought their suggestion for adding new progammes in the celebrations. He said that the role of Universities is of utmost importance as the mental and intellectual development of students  depends on our educational institutions. Issues like holding of different sports events, cultural activities, youth summit, international seminar and exhibition were discussed   in the meeting. The issue to ensure participation of University students in different activities was also discussed.
        He said that Prime Minister has accepted the invitation to be the Chief Guest in the grand opening of Swarna Jayanti Samaroh  at Gurgaon on November 1, 2016. The celebrations would continue upto October 31, 2017. The programmes would be organized in all districts in the state in which involvement of all people would be ensured.
He said that Gita Jayanti Mahotsav would be organized at international level in Kurukshetra in December next. Apart from a National Youth Festival, a seminar of Non Residents of Haryana from all over the world would also be organized in the month of January  next year. In addition, ‘Khel Mahakumbh’ would  be organized  as concluding event of celebrations in which players from all over the country would participate.
        The Chief Minister also suggested that Vice Chancellors should also organize a mega event to mark the anniversaries of those prominent personalities whose chairs have been set up in their institutions for research purposes.
        Chief Secretary Mr D.S. Dhesi briefed about the Swarna Jayanti Celebrations on this occasion.
        Others present  in the meeting included Additional Chief Secretary Sports Dr K.K. Khandelwal, Principal Secretary Higher Education Dr Mahavir Singh, Convenor of Swaran Jayanti Celebrations Committee Mr Rajiv Sharma, Vice Chancellors of State and Private Universities and other senior officers of the State government.
