Generating awareness about cashless and electronic transactions

CHANDIGARH, NOV 30
 Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal said that officers and officials of various departments have been asked to generate awareness among the people about cashless and electronic transactions, wallet transactions, plastic money and transactions through mobile. This drive should continue for alteast seven days.
          Mr Manohar Lal, who was interacting with the media persons after presiding over a meeting of all Administrative Secretaries, here today, was asked to comment on the demonetization of the currency notes of higher denominations.
          He said that though the government transactions are done through electronic mode yet the personal transactions or transactions in market or business should also be cashless so that people do not face any problem regarding currency notes. This system provides a transparent and prompt transaction of money, he added.
          On being asked about the swipe and Point of Sale (POS) machines in government departments, he said that all the government departments having facility of POS counters, have been directed to install swipe machines and POS machines. He said the banks have also assured the State Government that no additional amount would be charged on the transactions through cards on 5000 counters in the State. He made it clear that the transaction through POS and Swipe Machines would be optional and people would also be able to make payments though cash.
          He said that different applications have been prepared by banks and telecom companies to facilitate cashless transaction. Apart from this, the Government would give Rs five as a token of appreciation to each person who would get himself registered on Unified Payments Interface (UPI), Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) and other modes of cashless transactions.
          When asked to comment on the statement of the Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi asking the BJP MPs, MLAs and leaders to furnish the details of transactions made between November 8 to December 31, 2016, the Chief Minister hailed this decision saying that it is a good initiative. He said in such situations, one should begin of its own.
          Asked to comment on   setting up of its own company by the State Government to implement Crop Insurance Scheme, the Chief Minister replied that it was in the pipeline.
