Plan to set up Fishery Science College in Hisar

CHANDIGARH, NOV 27The Haryana Government plans to set up Fishery Science College in Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Hisar, which would provide employment opportunities to the youth.
This was disclosed by the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, while speaking after laying the foundation stone of the new campus of Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Hisar, today.
Since livestock is as important as human life, it should be promoted. The state government has given approval for setting up of regional livestock centres in the districts of Karnal and Mahendragarh. Soon, a livestock centre would be set up in Keorak village of Kaithal district.
The Chief Minister said concerted efforts were being made by the state government to realise the vision of the Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi, to double the income of farmers of the country.
Talking about milk production, he said that the per capita milk availability in the state had increased to 835 grams this year as compared to 805 grams last year whereas the per capita milk availability in Punjab is 937 grams. He urged researchers to work towards increasing milk productivity.
Noting that the university has developed ‘Hardhenu’ breed of cow with 35-40 litres per day milk yield, Mr Manohar Lal appreciated the work done by the university and assured full help in such endeavours.
Expressing happiness after laying the foundation stone of the new campus of the university, the Chief Minister said that 1,125 acres of land had been provided for the new campus. It would help in promoting animal rearing activities. The university has set up College of Dairy Science and Technology and Institute of Para Veterinary Sciences and construction work on the Food Safety Laboratory and Forensics Laboratory is in progress.
Speaking on the occasion, the Animal Husbandry and Dairying Minister, Mr. Om Prakash Dhankar, said that the aim of the state government was to top in milk productivity. Besides, special focus needs to be given to the marketing of milk so that the dairy sector in the state could be developed on the lines of Amul model of Gujarat.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor, Maj Gen (Dr) Shri Kant, welcomed the guests and informed people about the history of the university. The others present included the Finance Minister, Capt. Abhimanyu, the Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Dr. Kamal Gupta, BJP State President, Mr. Subhash Barala, and other dignitaries.
