Tightening the noose around the corrupt, the Haryana State Vigilance Bureau registered 281 fresh inquiries against different persons during the 29-month tenure of the present government.
Those involved in the inquiries included four IAS and three HCS officers, six chief engineers, four superintending engineers, 39 executive engineers, four tehsildars, three naib tehsildars and 40 sub-divisional engineers and municipal engineers of different departments.
Stating this here today, a spokesman of the Bureau said the complaints against them related to corruption, misappropriation of government funds and owning disproportionate assets. As many as 162 inquires were finalised by the Bureau during this period, and, on the basis of these inquires, it recommended registration of 30 criminal cases against 30 gazetted officers, 29 non-gazetted officers and 25 others.
Departmental action was recommended in 53 inquiries against delinquent officials. In addition, registration of criminal cases and departmental action was recommended in six inquiries.
He said 391 criminal cases were registered against various officials during this period. The Bureau conducted 323 raids in which 32 gazetted officers, 314 non-gazetted officers and 43 others were caught red-handed while accepting illegal gratification.
Similarly, 226 assessments were carried out by the technical wing of the Bureau. On the basis of the checking, it recommended action against 323 officers or officials along with recovery of over Rs 7.21 crore.
In all, 97 cases were decided by various courts in which 103 officers or officials and 38 other individuals were convicted under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act in the cases filed by the State Vigilance Bureau. The highest number of conviction belongs to the Revenue, Police and Education Departments followed by Cooperation Departments, the spokesman added.
