Haryana to seek Israeli help to conserve water

CHANDIGARH, JUNE 13
 Haryana will seek assistance of Israel to conserve water and to resolve the problem of depleting groundwater levels in the state. 
          This was disclosed by Chief Secretary, Mr. D.S. Dhesi, in a meeting with Ambassador of Israel, Mr. Daniel Carmon, who had called on him in this regard here today.
During the meeting, Mr. Carmon invited Mr. Dhesi to a three-day exhibition on water technique to be organised in Israel from September 12 to 14, 2017. 
Mr. Dhesi said that the State Government was promoting horticulture in the State and peri-urban agriculture would be promoted to avail the benefit of proximity to the National Capital Region.
He said that the State Government was taking special steps for the promotion of horticulture, under which Maharana Pratap Horticulture University has been established in village Anjansthali, district Karnal. He said that it had been proposed to run five centres of excellence in the State with the assistance of Israel. Of these, Centre of Excellence for Vegetables has been established in Gharaunda, district Karnal, Centre of Excellence for Fruits in Mangiana, district Sirsa and Centre of Excellence for Sub-Tropical Fruits in Ladwa, district Kurukshetra. An integrated beekeeping development centre would be inaugurated in Ramnagar, district Kurukshetra in October this year. Besides, a Centre of Excellence for Flowers would soon be established in Jhajjar.
Principal Secretary, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department, Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi was also present on the occasion.
