Hafed to procure sunflower seed till July 31

CHANDIGARH, JULY 6
Haryana State Co-operative Supply and Marketing Federation (Hafed) will continue to procure sunflower seed till July 31, 2017.
While giving this information today, Chairman, Hafed, Mr Harvinder Kalyan said that till date Hafed has procured 2,885 Metric Tonnes (MT) of sunflower seed  by benefitting 1,621 farmers of 194 villages. He said that Hafed was procuring the Sunflower Seed at Minimum Support Price (MSP) under the Government of India Price Support Scheme (PSS) on behalf of National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (Nafed). The procurement of Sunflower seed is in progress at Ambala City, Shahbad, Ladwa and Pehowa (Kurukshetra) Mandies.
He also refuted the press news regarding stoppage of purchase of Sunflower Seed by Hafed.
He further said that in the interest of farmers, the Chief Minister, had taken up the matter with Government of India to enhance the limit set for the purchase of Sunflower Seed.
He said that the farmers of the state were selling their Sunflower seed crop at the prevailing market rate, which was far below the Minimum Support Price (MSP). The Haryana Government immediately stepped in to protect the interest of the farmers by deciding to procure FAQ Sunflower Seed at the MSP of Rs.3,950 per quintal (including a bonus of Rs. 100) which is well above the prevailing market rate, he added.
